Jimmy Choo for H&M

Jimmy Choo for H&M will hit stores tomorrow, 14 November.
The collection felt like Serena van der Woodsen’s wardrobe – even the model looks like Blaire Lively, if you refer to H&M’s website.

The shoe collection – mostly stilettos – is reasonably priced between US$99-149. Absolutely a great reason for shoe lovers to go binge-shopping. Sadly, the heels are beyond acceptable height for Miss Glitzy. The flats fail to wow, except for this pair of very unique reptile “preens” studded oxfords (US$149)!

Clothes and accessories wise, Miss Glitzy loves the collection for the glamourous and glitzy outfits – leather, tassles, faux fur and sequins! But at about US$129-249 for a dress, they seem a tad pricey.
So no, Miss Glitzy will not fly to Shanghai or Hong Kong or anywhere just to get a piece of affordable Choo.
For closeups of the collection, you could visit the gallery on Fabsugar.

All-day breakfast at Hatched
November 11, 2009 at 10:19 am | In Miss G: Food | Leave a CommentTags: All-day breakfast, brunch, Food review, Hatched
You know at Sex and the City, the 4 friends will gather for Sunday brunch to update each other about what’s going on? It’s the casual place that requires no dressing up and no pretence. And if you’ve noticed, all the very important conversations in the show usually appear at brunch!
Back in Singapore, if you yearn to experience brunch like the regular New Yorkers (as seen on SATC), go to Hatched – a newly opened all-day breakfast restaurant.
Located at Evans Lodge, the newly opened all-day breakfast place resembles a cozy tuck shop complete with wooden furnishing and chalkboard! Unassuming and unpretentious. And since Evans Lodge is a laid-back area, no dressing up is required! There is a great selection of food from the “2010 Catalogue of Eggs” (menu), so you will not go hungry after all the talking. All checked, great place for brunch.

PBJ (Peanut Butter and Jelly)
It’s so hard to find a place that sells PBJ here! I don’t understand why not many places sell PB&J sandwiches in Singapore since it’s so easy to prepare. Hatched’s version uses thick wholemeal bread slices. The jam had generous berry bits for texture but I think we could do better with more peanut butter. Somehow, this didn’t feel the same as the Peanut Butter and Jelly Bagel that I had at the cafe along 17th street at NYC.

The Sleepover – $12 with Hatched special (grilled bananas and bacon strips between Brioche French toasts)
The portion looks humble but it was really filling! Love the combination of grilled bananas and bacon. You could go without the maple syrup if you do not want your toasts to be too sweet. The Sleepover was tasty and not too oily – I expected French toasts and bacon to be a bit greasy but thankfully, this was not.

Make your own Vintage
November 9, 2009 at 10:24 pm | In Miss G: Outfits, Miss G: Photography | 4 CommentsTags: Lomography, Outfits, Plaid, Vintage
By now, you should know I’m not as “glitzy” as my name. I am a slacker by default.
One Saturday, I brought my lomolito out for a walk. I was in my favourite denim shorts and Birkenstocks..

The plaid shirt deserves a mention. It is my vintage piece. I bought it as a brand new shirt dress when I was a teenager. More than 10 years later, plaid is back. I altered the dress to a shirt and it still fits like a tee.

In fact, the brand “Fornari” is not even in Singapore anymore.

Miss Chubby and I acting goofy.
I will wear my own vintage more often.
M for Macarons: Starbucks Macarons (from Japan)
November 8, 2009 at 10:00 pm | In Miss G: Food, The M Project, Uncategorized | Leave a CommentTags: apple cinnamon macaron, French Dessert, french desserts, macarons, Starbucks, The M Project
This is for real: Starbucks sells Macarons!
Miss Glitzy spotted this at a Starbucks outlet in Tokyo. There were 3 flavours (Caramel, Maroon and Apple Cinnamon) available at that store and each individually packaged like a cookie.

Each macaron was huge – with a diameter of 4.5cm with artificially polished surface. Each macaron costs 220 yen (about S$3.40).
First impression – it is expensive, since the Pierre Hermé macaron, albeit a lot smaller, only costs 230 yen each. Next, in terms of appearance, the Starbucks macaron was reminiscent of the Icing Room one.
However, a bite of the Apple & Cinnamon macaron proved to be a pleasant surprise. The shell was crumbly, slightly chewy and sweet. The apple cinnamon paste was sour so it balanced out the sweetness of the macaron shell. The cinnamon in the filling added some spicy fragrance to the macaron, which was very unique.
Please don’t ask what “maroon” flavour means – due to language difficulties, Miss Glitzy was unable to get an answer from the barista.
PS: Stay tuned for the review on Pierre Hermé macarons!
Final verdict (out of 5 points):

Feminine Pants Outfit – Yeah or Nay?
November 3, 2009 at 10:13 am | In Miss G: Outfits | 11 CommentsTags: BCBG, Outfit, repeat outfits, wedding guest outfit
Those who followed me on my Facebook probably caught me asking in exasperation a few days ago: “Can I wear skinny jeans to a wedding dinner? Is that disrespectful?”
Well, I ditched the jeans but wore a pants outfit for the dinner. I attempted to “reinvent” an old outfit to make it more suitable for a dinner setting.

I had the same Oasis skinny pants and BCBG silk top that I wore here. I tried to style my hair to get a little bit of “poof” and soft curls for a more romantic look. To jazz up the look, I threw on some pearls and added a pink flower clip! Leather wedges were from Charles & Keith and satin clutch was from ASOS!
Gurlosophy had a chirpy yellow number that was a great buy from Zara sale!
Took photos with a number of friends at the wedding. You know them!

Armotif: A regular on this blog. She rocked in her LBD!
Alvinology: Old friend who grabbed headlines recently for his wedding proposal. Congratulations dude!
Chewy: The princess in shiny armour who saved me from my wardrobe malfunction.
I am not sure whether it would have been more appropriate if I wore a cocktail dress instead. What do you think of my pants outfit for this occasion? Yeah or Nay?

LASIKed!
October 29, 2009 at 6:58 pm | In Miss G: Beauty | 9 CommentsTags: Experience, Eyesight, Lasik, Lifestyle
It has been 2 weeks since the Lasik surgery and everything is great!
The eyes were operated at The Lasik Surgery Clinic (LSC) at Paragon, by the Senior Eye Consultant – Dr Marc Tay. The total damage was $4.3k inclusive of 10 boxes of Refresh eye drops which is like miracle water for the eyes at least for the first 2 weeks after the surgery.
But seriously, as what another friend commented, Lasik is probably the best invention ever.
- Miss Glitzy did not research extensively on the clinics and costs prior to the surgery because people around her did their Lasik surgery at the same clinic. LSC is one of the more established clinics in Singapore with probably the most state-of-art technology.
- The procedure she opted for was Wavefront Lasik (IntraLase), or iLasik, whereby the cornea flap is created with a bladeless technology. The Wavefront Lasik helps to enhance night vision, although it’s more useful for those with astigmatism.
- Do not wear soft contact lenses for at least 3 days prior to the surgery. You are not supposed to wear any makeup or perfume on the day of surgery.
- Do not make your decision solely based on price, but also consider the clinic’s technology, facilities and word of mouth. LSC provides installment plans so you should opt for more advanced surgery that would cost more but have lower probability of complications.
Miss Glitzy booked a morning slot for a consultation with the clinic, and also scheduled a surgery time slot for the afternoon. The whole eye consultation was thorough and took about 3 hours, including a consultation with the doctor. Once the evaluation proved that Glitzy’s eyes were suitable for the surgery, she could have both eyes operated on the same day!

There was also a great deal of education and counseling for the patients. Patients were asked to watch a video that explains what Lasik surgery is about, and there was an optometrist who explains the procedure verbally. There are risks to the surgery although the whole operation is a painless process and only takes 15 minutes. Patients are required to sign an agreement treatment and consent form. The consultation and wait for the operation was pleasant, as the clinic is well stocked with TV, food, magazines and Wifi! The staff were very responsive and friendly too.
The surgery though, felt like the longest 15 minutes ever! There was a suction being placed on the eyes such that Miss Glitzy could blink but wouldn’t close her eyes during the whole operation. She stared long and hard at the light and tada, the cornea flaps were created. Moved on to the next machine, stared at laser lights again to get her eyes Lasiked. All was fine, her nose was blocked (from sinus) so she couldn’t smell any burning laser smell during the operation. Soon, the lasik on the right eye was completed. There was a plastic film being flipped over and Glitzy suddenly realised that this “plastic film” was her cornea! Ok, suffice to say, that coward literally froze for the next 5-8 minutes when her left eye was being operated, wondering what she had gotten herself into.

The eyes were extremely uncomfortable immediately after surgery and once she reached home, she took the prescribed sleeping pill and went to sleep.
After that one day in the clinic and 6 hours of sleep, life was perfect again.

Miss Glitzy recommends everyone to get the goggles (S$15) from the clinic – wear it to sleep, to bathe or even when you’re going out! These goggles did a great job in protecting the 4000-dollar new eyes!
