High Tea at Carousel

The original plan was to try out the special French menu at Royal Plaza on Scotts that comes with free flow of champagne. Here is the menu on Soshiok.com. However, high tea at Carousel proved to be a more attractive thought so we succumbed to international buffet instead of French.

Miss Glitzy recalled that a friend celebrated his birthday at Carousel over buffet lunch. A group of restaurant staff performed a birthday song and the birthday boy received a pack stack of nicely arranged macarons on the house! This is probably not the usual service from Carousel but feel free to request for such birthday surprise in future!

For high tea buffet, Carousel provided a pretty sumptuous spread. In fact, Miss Glitzy was not able to “diversify” on all the dishes and decided to whack the salmon sashimi and focus on the desserts instead. There were 3 different dessert stations. One station had scones, muffins, bread pudding, chocolate pudding and Thai steamed tapioca. The scone and bread pudding were not bad. Thai steamed tapioca is not commonly found in local buffets and the tapioca was of the right texture and right sweetness. Miss Glitzy liked it but was wary not to consume too much starch so as to save space for other food. Second station was the chocolate fondue and ice cream station. These never go wrong. Third station was where the Nonya kuehs and cakes were. No stomach space for cakes but a couple of the kuehs were great!

On the other hand, Miss Glitzy’s friend was overjoyed to find fried fishcakes because these were reminiscent of the primary school canteen. Apparently, school canteens have stopped selling these. How nostalgic!

All in all, Miss Glitzy likes the wide variety of food offered at Carousel and will return for more! The all-halal buffet is also a good choice for Muslims too. There is 15% discount for UOB, Citibank, Amex and HSBC cardholders. The high tea only cost $34 nett with the card promotion.
