The Red Rouge

I have been thinking of experimenting with brighter lip colours and just as I was considering which bright red lippy to buy, I received a collection of cosmetics from L’Oreal Paris today. To my delight, they included a bright red lipstick (646 Red Passion) from the Color Riche collection.

Here is how the red rouge looks on me:

Tips on wearing the Red Lips:

1. Unless it’s Halloween, keep it simple. Eyeliner, mascara and a very light dust of blusher would do the trick. If you really can’t live without your fake eyelashes, go for the natural-looking ones.

2. It is important to shape your lips nicely so that you look polished. Simply use a lip brush to create an accurate and defined shape.

3. For the lip color to last, use a lip stain (eg. Benetint) before you apply the lipstick. If you would like to add a wee bit of shine, add some lip gloss over the lipstick.

4. Contrary to popular belief that red lipstick is only for fair girls, girls with darker skin colours can wear red lip colors very well too!

5. For a safe bet, keep your outfit simple to avoid looking too dramatic.

If you are uncertain about the Red Lips but you are keen to give it a shot, I suggest you can look at the cheaper drugstore offerings. A number of brands have released bright lip colors for this new season. The L’Oreal Paris Color Riche lipstick retails at S$19.90.
