Quiet lunch in the CBD – Vanilla Cafe

When Reizz blogged about Vanilla Cafe, I knew I had to pay it a visit. Lunch at the Central Business District is a nightmare because it is always rushed, crowded and hectic. It’s hard to find a place that is quiet and serene so that you can just space out and not think about work for that precious 1 hour.

Tucked at Boon Tat Street, Vanilla Cafe is just a short walk away from most major buildings at Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar. Once you step into the cafe, you will be warmly greeted by a waft of vanilla scent. The owner intended the cafe to “provide solace for tired professionals” and just judging from the look and feel of the place, it has already fulfilled its primary objective.

The cafe serves all day breakfast, sandwiches, Japanese don and tantalising desserts priced between S$6 to S$11. In the evening, Vanilla Cafe is transformed into a bar serving cocktail and finger food.

My sandwich (S$8.90) was surprisingly delicious. Frankly I didn’t really expect the food to be superb but the egg mayonnaise serving was generous but light. Smoked salmon strips was not salty and blended well with egg mayo. You can add another S$1.50 for coffee or tea.

I paid the cafe a second visit one week later and the waiter recommended the sandwich to my friend by describing it as “leaves a very refreshed taste in your mouth”. Interesting but rather apt description.

I ordered the Traditional Breakfast ($9.50) on my second visit. It was delicious but to be honest, no one ever goes wrong with hash browns, sausages or sunny side up. I like that the bacon strips were not too salty.

While I would gladly refer Vanilla as the hidden gem of CBD, I think it’s service needs to be improved. The two staff were overwhelmed at late noon, when there were slightly more patrons. Nonetheless, this is the place I will go when I need some peace and quiet.

  2. ๐Ÿ˜€ The other time i was there, we had to shift our seas as there’s last minute booking of 10-15 pax. It’s getting popular perhaps! ๐Ÿ˜€
