Miss Glitzy went to Taste Paradise at Ion Orchard for team lunch. I have heard so much about this restaurant, which is the flagship store of Taste Paradise group and is always packed on weekends! Photos were taken with the mobile phone as my colleagues were staring.

The restaurant is huge and its interior is very elegant, totally infused with the Oriental mood and feel. You are the Emperor(ess) here. Portraits of the past Chinese Emperors adorn the walls of Taste Paradise. The embossed table cloth and the table finery helps you to better indulge in your Imperial fantasy.

Beneath the Oriental look and feel, there is an inkling of the Western culture. The tea cup – Chinese tea cups do not have handles!

This fusion of East meet West is also reflected in the food. The Dim Sum Trio that kick-started the lunch was displayed like a dim-sum platter with a shrimp dumpling, Japanese-like fried vegetable fritter and a shiu mai (Chinese pork+shrimp dumpling) with mentaiko.

The Peking Duck was served with prawn crackers. Each flour skin was wrapped with crispy duck skin and some duck meat, so the wrap tasted quite wholesome. However, I must say that I’m still a fan of Minjiang’s Peking Duck!

The Imperial Hot and Sour Seafood soup helped to enhance the appetite for more dishes later. Not exceptional but I like the mix of spicy and sour tastes.

The Sauteed Minced Duck with Lettuce on bed of Potato Chip was another example of East-West fusion. The remaining Peking Duck meat was diced and stir-fried with letters and other condiments. Instead of serving the dish with fresh lettuces, Taste Paradise used the Potato Chips instead. It was innovative, but the potato chip was not very crispy and that kinda spoiled the dish.

The Chilled Mango Puree with Sago and Pomelo Topped with Coconut Ice-cream dessert made a dramatic entrance with loads of dry ice beneath the glass bowl.  Despite occasional shakes from the “vibrating” dry ice, I totally love it! The coconut ice-cream was a good addition to this traditional Mango dessert.

Some may find the restaurant’s interior too gaudy but Miss Glitzy personally finds it unique and exquisite. The service is impeccable and this is a good place for formal gatherings – such as business lunches or large family reunions!
