You know at Sex and the City, the 4 friends will gather for Sunday brunch to update each other about what’s going on? It’s the casual place that requires no dressing up and no pretence. And if you’ve noticed, all the very important conversations in the show usually appear at brunch!

Back in Singapore, if you yearn to experience brunch like the regular New Yorkers (as seen on SATC), go to Hatched – a newly opened all-day breakfast restaurant.

Located at Evans Lodge, the newly opened all-day breakfast place resembles a cozy tuck shop complete with wooden furnishing and chalkboard! Unassuming and unpretentious. And since Evans Lodge is a laid-back area, no dressing up is required! There is a great selection of food from the “2010 Catalogue of Eggs” (menu), so you will not go hungry after all the talking. All checked, great place for brunch.

PBJ (Peanut Butter and Jelly)

It’s so hard to find a place that sells PBJ here! I don’t understand why not many places sell PB&J sandwiches in Singapore since it’s so easy to prepare. Hatched’s version uses thick wholemeal bread slices. The jam had generous berry bits for texture but I think we could do better with more peanut butter. Somehow, this didn’t feel the same as the Peanut Butter and Jelly Bagel that I had at the cafe along 17th street at NYC.

The Sleepover – $12 with Hatched special (grilled bananas and bacon strips between Brioche French toasts)

The portion looks humble but it was really filling! Love the combination of grilled bananas and bacon. You could go without the maple syrup if you do not want your toasts to be too sweet. The Sleepover was tasty and not too oily – I expected French toasts and bacon to be a bit greasy but thankfully, this was not.
