Rodarte for Target
December 1, 2009 at 10:05 am | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | 6 CommentsTags: Dakota Fanning, Lace, Rodarte, target
It’s all about lace, leopard and rib cage this Christmas as 55 new pieces designed by Rodarte will be launched at Target stores/online on 20 December!
The official photos are not out yet but sneak peeks of the collection appeared on Twitter, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Vogue!
The collection seems to focus a lot on texture – with lace, fur and sequins. This Target collection also looks more conventional than the usual Rodarte offerings.
The feature on Vogue December:
Lace Dress: US$40
Mustard cardigan: US$24.99 | Tulle skirt: US$29.99 (not sure)
The bow lace dress looks stunning in Nude shade!
Halter Bow-tie Dress: US$45
Braided Denim Jacket: US$44.99
Blue Swiss Dot lace dress: US$40 (my fave!), Leopard bow belt: US$13
Cardigan and Printed Dress: US$24.99 and US$34.99 respectively
Dakota Fanning also joined in the fun with a Leopard Lace Dress from Rodarte for Target – US$45. Apparently, there are bows at the back of this dress!
[Edited: The official Look Book for this collection is finally out. Please go to my Facebook album to view these 9 pictures.]
Target is going fast and furious with designer collaborations. After Rodarte, there’s Eugenia Kim for a hat collection and Cynthia Vincent for shoes! Both collections will be launched in Spring 2010.

The Little Black Party Dress
November 24, 2009 at 12:00 am | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | 2 CommentsTags: Fashion, LBPD, Party Dress, Shopping
With the festive season approaching, it’s time to look for the party dress!
There is a school of thought that preaches that “black is boring”. But black is versatile, universal and suitable for all events. If you find a great black dress, you can wear it to a party, a formal ball, a black-tie event .. you get the gist.
And Miss Glitzy would seriously wanna rock a LBPD (Little Black Party Dress) like how Dakota Fanning did in her Valentino:
I have consolidated my Glitz Wish List for the LBPDs!
Let the Ruffles do the Talking
(left) 1. Yoana Baraschi Blow-Up Dress (US$355.00) – For the breezy, relaxed and effortless chic look.
(right) 2. Diane von Furstenberg Pivette Wrap Dress in Black (US$495) – My favourite designer! The individual pleats look very structured but this is toned down with the use of draped polyester and the colour black.
For the Vintage
3. Ossie Clark Cosmic silk-georgette dress (£227.96) – Stand out from the sea of halternecks and tube dresses with a gentle silk vintage-inspired piece. The Ossie Clark dress has a playful deep V-neck which leaves some room for erm.. imagination!

Go Avante-Garde
4. Tsumori Chisato Dress in Black/Cream (US$1,101) – Totally in love with this look! A little don’t-carish attitude and a dash of adventure are all you need for a great party!
The Old School
5. BCBGMAXAZRIA Lace & Organza Party Dress(S$675.35) – It perfectly fine to be traditional and stay with the essentials of a party dress – the silk, the lace and the organza. The BCBG dress added a playful touch with the tiers and the short flirty dress length!

Jimmy Choo for H&M
November 13, 2009 at 11:44 am | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | 6 CommentsTags: Fashion, H&M, Jimmy Choo, Shoe shopping, Shopping
Jimmy Choo for H&M will hit stores tomorrow, 14 November.
The collection felt like Serena van der Woodsen’s wardrobe – even the model looks like Blake Lively, if you refer to H&M’s website.

The shoe collection – mostly stilettos – is reasonably priced between US$99-149. Absolutely a great reason for shoe lovers to go binge-shopping. Sadly, the heels are beyond acceptable height for Miss Glitzy. The flats fail to wow, except for this pair of very unique reptile “preens” studded oxfords (US$149)!

Clothes and accessories wise, Miss Glitzy loves the collection for the glamourous and glitzy outfits – leather, tassles, faux fur and sequins! But at about US$129-249 for a dress, they seem a tad pricey.
So no, Miss Glitzy will not fly to Shanghai or Hong Kong or anywhere just to get a piece of affordable Choo.
For closeups of the collection, you could visit the gallery on Fabsugar.

Christopher Kane for Topshop VS Anna Sui for Target
September 14, 2009 at 12:01 am | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | Leave a CommentTags: Anna Sui for Target, Christopher Kane for Topshop, Fashion collaboration, Miss G: Fashion
Christopher Kane for Topshop collection has been launched! And last weekend, there was a preview of Anna Sui for Target – all Gossip Girl inspired, just in time for the premiere of the new season.
Miss Glitzy researches and compares these 2 collaborations.
![]()

Christopher Kane: London-based designer aged 27, started his own label in 2006.
- Graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design
- Favoured by Donatella Versace, partnering with Versace to design accessories for the Versus label
- Awarded New Designer of The Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2007
- His SS09 collection was sold out on Net-a-Porter within hours after hitting the site
Anna Sui: American-based designer aged 45. Her clothing, fragrance, cosmetic, and accessories lines retail in her stores and independent boutiques in over 50 countries.
- Attended Parsons School of Design
- Famous clients include Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton, Christina Ricci, Cher, Naomi Campbell, Sofia Coppola, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Maria Sharapova and Nicole Richie
- Awarded the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (Council of Fashion Designers of America) in 2009
VERDICT: Anna Sui leads with much more experience in the industry and impressive clientele. Christopher Kane is clearly a designer with loads of potential despite his short experience in the industry.

Christopher Kane for Topshop: Biggest collection ever for Topshop, with a total of 39 pieces ranging from scarf, dresses to footwear.

Crocodile tee, studded leggings and mesh dress. And plenty of interesting colours such as flourescent yellow, pink and a lot of black. The bodycon dresses embraces the feminine curves but the industrial studded eyelets looks fierce. Indeed a cool and cutting edge collection for women who dare to be different.
Anna Sui for Target: Inspired by Serena, Blair, Jenny and Vanessa – the 4 lead characters of popular drama “Gossip Girl”. A total of 19 outfits – with leggings, dresses and outer wear.

Miss Glitzy bet you can’t even tell who’s who. From left to right: Blair, Jenny, Vanessa and Serena. The outfits don’t really look closely like what the characters usually wear. Anna Sui merely included some of their elements – for example Blair-inspired dresses have more girlish details and Serena’s outfits are mostly monochrome to emit some cool chick vibes. Actually Serena does wear colours – such as that beautiful yellow dress at Lily’s wedding. And gosh, Vanessa’s range just looks horrendously orange.
Some of the dresses in this collection are reminiscent of Anna Sui’s earlier runway collections. Well, to some, it displays a lack of creativity. To others, it means that the consumers now have a chance to get a second version of her collection – who cares if they originated a few seasons earlier- at a more affordable price tag!
VERDICT: While Miss Glitzy is more of a fan of colourful dresses than studs and mesh dresses, Christopher Kane’s offerings for Topshop are a lot more customised and unique as compared to Anna Sui who rehashed some of her previous designs into this collaboration. One up for Christopher Kane – check out his own collection here.

Christopher Kane for Topshop collection range from US$90 for a croc tee to US$310 for a dress. Definitely much pricier than the regular Topshop offerings. On the other hand, Anna Sui for Target is a lot more affordable at US$19.99 to US$149.99 (that’s the Serena-inspired leather jacket)!
VERDICT: Anna Sui for Target takes the cake! Although some bloggers who were at the pop-up store at NYC for a preview did comment that the quality of the dresses appears comparable to the price tag.
PARTING NOTE: Half of Christopher Kane for Topshop collection will be sold at ION Orchard from Oct 1. And meanwhile, Miss Glitzy can’t wait to check out those Target dresses online!

The Blazer does it Right!

It goes formal. It goes casual. But the little blazer definitely does wonders in jazzing up a simple outfit.
It’s pretty simple. You can wear the same tank top and straight cut pants but wearing a different blazer will evoke a different look and feel. If you are feeling sloppy in just tank top and shorts, a casual blazer is all you need to make your outfit a little more elaborated.
So if you have not been investing much on jackets or blazers, it’s time to do so! For a start, get a well-cut blazer which you feel comfortable wearing. Some CLs think that only those G2000 type of business suits are acceptable in the formal corporate setting. Actually, if you mix and match well, just a simple “casual” blazer will make you look worth a gazillion bucks!

(From top left) Elizabeth and James Edwardian Blazer US$420 – Example of a well-cut basic jacket. Puffed sleeves and lightly padded shoulders with some pleats at the hem. All these are very flattering details. Stay cool in tank top and skinny jeans but never out of place when matched with a pencil skirt for the office.
Rag & Bone ‘Jem’ One Button Stretch Wool Jacket US$495 – This is a super tailored blazer. But if you wanna rock this for weekends, just unbutton it and add some chunky chains matched with jeans for preppy casual look.
(From bottom left) Moschino Cheap and Chic Blazer Jacket US$647.50 – Jackets of lighter shades are awesome for the office because you stand out from a sea of black! Instead of wearing a loose tank top, wear a white lycra top and white skirt/pants to look smart.
Mint Jodi Arnold Khaki V-Neck Jacket US$118.80 – This jacket has no notched collar but it looks smart and feminine!

The Ideeli Experience
August 1, 2009 at 10:19 pm | In Miss G: Shopping | 5 CommentsTags: dkny, ideeli, invite-only shopping, online shopping, watch
Miss Glitzy’s first Ideeli purchase – a DKNY leather watch priced at US$34 – has arrived!
Just a few notes on the overall shopping experience at this invite-only website:
The website accepts international credit card
Great news because Singaporeans can buy from them!
Ideeli does not ship internationally
Get your Vpost/Comgateway/Borderlinx address ready. Shipping to your US address costs US$10 per order. And you will need to pay for your shipping from US to Singapore. So factor these costs in before you place your order.
Ideeli is not for those who need their items urgently
If you have an event in a week’s time and want to get a dress from Ideeli specially for the event, you can scrap this idea. Ideeli ships the item by the 10th business day after the sale is closed because Ideeli collects the items from the retailers after the sales end. Nonetheless, the wait is worth it!
Miss Glitzy’s watch reached Borderlinx US address in 3 days after it was shipped out of Ideeli. The item reached Singapore after another 3 days. The entire wait was almost 3 weeks. But grabbing a good bargain was priceless.

Emma Watson and her Maxi
July 14, 2009 at 8:07 pm | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | 10 CommentsTags: Emma Watson, Harry Potter Premiere, Maxi Dress, Ossie Clark maxi dress
It’s hard on the ego to regard someone in her late teens as a style icon since we literally watch Emma Watson grow up!
But Miss Glitzy really loves the Ossie Clark vintage maxi dress that she wore to the Harry Potter premiere in London.

It’s a beautiful and flattering piece, isn’t it? In fact, the long flare skirt and puff sleeves makes it flattering for all body shapes! Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this Ossie Clark dress will be on sale since it’s a vintage piece and the designer passed away in 1996.
It’s incredibly hard to find a decent maxi dress with sleeves in the stores though. Most maxi dresses out there are either halter, tube or spaghetti straps. For a maxi dress that looks conservative on top, the prints cannot be too loud or it would appear too overwhelming.
Miss Glitzy scoured the web and here are some maxi dresses that we can look at to emulate Emma Watson’s outfit.
(top left)
Missoni Style Maxi Dress US$88 – It’s a knit dress with scallop details! Miss Glitzy thinks one could carry off a Grecian Goddess look in this dress.
Alice + Olivia Wrap Maxi Dress £224.02 – There are embellished details at the sleeves that adds some variety to the simple but chic dress. The satin tie belt is another plus!
(bottom left)
ADAM Deep V Long Dress with Bubble Sleeves US$595 – If you are a print girl, this is the one for you. Casual and fun but Miss Glitzy doesn’t quite like the empire waist. Maybe cinch a plain belt for some elegance points?
A.L.C. Sar Dress US$495 - This maxi dress is tres unique! It’s jersey material so it is ideal for warm weather. The round crew neck top juxtaposed with pleated details adds a rock chick touch to the feminine long dress.

Ohh Emm Gee… Melissa Sale on Ideeli
July 10, 2009 at 11:07 pm | In Miss G: Shopping | 1 CommentTags: ideeli, melissa sale, melissa shoes, online shopping, sale

Ohh Kayyy.. there is a Melissa sale that is going to start at Ideeli – an invite-only shopping community. And that legendary Melissa + Alexandre Herchcovitch’s JOY is on sale at US$49 (50% off)! In B&W and Black. And in Miss Glitzy’s size.
Should Miss Glitzy buy these plastic shoes?
All these >50% sales online and offline are driving Miss Glitzy nuts. It’s just too hard to be a good girl and put all the money in the bank.
PS: For Vivienne Westwood Anglomania fans who have developed a crush on the 3-strap flats, you may be relieved to hear that your money is safe for now.

The Lady is the Champ
July 9, 2009 at 9:59 am | In Miss G: Fashion, Miss G: Shopping | 1 CommentTags: Eco-friendly, Leanne Marshall, Miss G: Fashion, Project Runway
Miss Armotif has been gushing about Project Runway and how she wants to try designing. She even becomes eco-friendly, probably inspired by Project Runway Champ Leanne Marshall.
Anyway, Leanne Marshall’s collection has been launched on Bluefly!

There are 9 pieces on sale currently and all are made from eco-friendly materials, including natural fiber, bamboos, linen and tensile. All the pieces boast simple silhouettes and add a dash of texture on everyday wear. Only the blue strapless dress (in the above picture) caught Miss Glitzy’s eyes. Bright colour and fluffy skirt never fail to keep Miss Glitzy delighted. However the rest of the collection felt kind of normal and “Targetish“.
Whaddaya think?
