Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Miss Glitzy was invited to the premiere of Transformers 2 last night at The Cathay. She is new to Transformers and that night, she went home with one, and only one conclusion:
Transformers is a cock dude flick.
To be frank, Miss Glitzy didn’t quite enjoy the movie but it wasn’t hard to understand why the series had a sequel with a generous production budget. The movie was shot in the US (and New York), Paris and Egypt, and peppered with tonnes of wonderful CG effects. 5 key characteristics that get the guys:
1) Hot lead actress: Megan Fox

Yes she’s really sexy and even Miss Glitzy couldn’t help but stare at her bouncing boobies when she was running for her life from the evil Transformers in Egypt!! She’s really a great contributing factor towards the film’s aesthetics and who cares if earlier (false) reports said that she’s a man?
2) Right-into-your-face humour
Some jokes were lame to the optimus, nonetheless still funny. Sam (played by Shia LaBeouf) is the good and serious guy and who expects his mom Judy to be a complete comic? And Leo the wimp was surprisingly funny at the second half of the movie.
3) Warfare galore

In the movie, the US military worked together with the Autobots (the good Transformers) to fight the Decepticons (bad Transformers). So, expect many men in uniform shouting commands and showing off their sophisticated weapons. It was military in full force: from the air, land and sea.
4) New fast cars

All men (and women) love fast cars. We have Sam’s trusted aide the yellow BumbleBee which is in real life a really cool yellow sports car (please don’t ask about the brand/make). Miss Glitzy personally loves the ice-cream truck which went gagging non-stop whenever it went in action. Only found out after research that the ice cream truck was transformed from the noisy Autobot twins, Skids and Mudflap. Would be really nice if there was such a transformer truck at the cinema that serves ice-cream.
5) Cars transform to robots and they fight!

This is of course the key reason why every guy wanna watch the movie. Fast cars transform into fierce fighter robots with omnipotent power in a jiffy! Can you feel the testosterone already? And they fight with each other with much gusto and the sight of metal collisions… exciting! It gets better when the attacks happen everywhere: in college, in Paris, in Egypt etc. Same attacks, same message, different locations. Simple and macho!
Once again, thanks OMY and UIP for the invitation. Do opt for Transformers if you are on a movie date with your guy. That would probably keep him happy for a day.

Beam me up Scotty – Premiere of Star Trek
April 30, 2009 at 11:09 pm | In Miss G: Movies | 6 CommentsTags: Miss G: Movies, sci-fi, Star Trek
Thanks to OMY and UIP, Miss Glitzy was invited to the premiere of Star Trek at GV Grand and boy she had never been a trekker and had zilch knowledge on the legacy of the story and its characters. Well, she certainly returned with an unforgettable visual experience. On the drive back, Miss Glitzy likened herself as captain of the USS Enterprise and every turn of the steering wheel felt like navigation in space.
This movie, aptly titled as “The Future Begins”, was structured as a prequel to the rest of the story in the previous 10 Star Trek movies and therefore newbies like Miss Glitzy was hooked to the storyline fast enough, albeit missing the essence of some classics along the way. The whole movie was rejuvenised with fresh-faced characters, contemporary setting and really sleek spacecraft and gadgets. There was a good mix of emotions, excitement and geek talk which would certainly appeal to a wide variety audience.
5 things that Miss Glitzy loved about the movie (no spoilers!)
1. Beaming is way too cool! It’s a more scientific way to transport people across different space/zones through fixing location of the target. You use algorithm and vectors! Teleporting with port keys is more inconvenient. With beaming, you just need someone in the spacecraft to lock your position and voila!
2. Spock’s hairdo is gonna be such a hit. It’s timeless classic – like the Chanel 2.55… and it’s cool to look like a Vulcan and sense of reliability is to-die-for. Nobody likes emo drama mamas. And look, Sarah Harding emulated the hairstyle recently and looked extraordinaire.

3. The Vulcan salute (as seen on Spock above). Miss Glitzy shall do no air kiss, thumbs up or high 5 in future. It’s gonna be replaced by ‘live long and prosper’ and the Vulcan hand gesture.

4. Testosterone is bountiful. There is no lack of men in this movie! The only female characters were probably Uhura and erm… Spock’s mom? Chris Pine is the rash and don’t-carish hero while Zachary Quinto is the serious and dependable one. And Eric Bana as the baddie! BUT… Chris Hemsworth who acted as George Kirk is the hottest! Absolutely smoking hot in that old school leotard-like spacesuit!

5. Young guys are cuter. The 17-year-old Pavel Chekov (by Anton Yelchin, above left) was the most likeable character in the movie! The Russian accent really tickles and that mock earnest look just nailed it. Miss Glitzy is turning paedophilic.
The only no-no?

Headset that looks like a syringe. Too morbid. Not cool.
Star Trek will open in Singapore on 8th May 2009. Go catch it and unravel the attraction of this cult fiction!

First Quarter Chick Flick Review

The first quarter of 2009 has passed and this was yet another movie-ful quarter – from the much-acclaimed Oscars selections to Asia-to-Hollywood movie adaptations to fluffy Chick Flicks!
Miss Glitzy caught 3 chick flicks in March and couldn’t help but associate them together. Imagine Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck from “He Just Not That Into You” decided to get married and they have a dog called Marley and they found out that their common friend, who is a magazine writer aka The Girl With Green Scarf is a debt-ridden shopaholic!

In terms of box office, it seems like “Confession of a Shopaholic” is leading. Taking just the first week’s box office numbers in Singapore, “Shopaholic” leads at US$396,648 for its first weekend – compared to “HJNTIY” at $275,190 and “Marley” at $367,366. But personally, I prefer “HJNTIY” for the funny but somewhat true representations of women. Dating can be depressing and I seriously need a movie to affirm that! “Shopaholic” didn’t quite live up to my expectations because the outfits were not as great as Sex and The City and the storyline was kinda weak. But Miss Glitzy certainly loves Isla Fisher’s luscious curls!
I hope someone do take part in this poll and feel free to comment your thoughts on chick flicks!
